Eye That Does Not See, Heart That Aches

Eye that does not see, heart that aches

Eye that does not see, heart that aches. It is true that there is no person more blind than those who do not want to see, but this does not mean that pain, sadness or anguish can disappear as if by magic simply by closing their eyes. It is not enough to snap your fingers to change things, you have to accept the pain and learn to deal with it.

This can be scary, but it will never be as bad as we think. One of the biggest monsters is catastrophic thinking, the one we often feed to protect ourselves from disappointment. And against the great monsters he can do nothing but courage.

How can we face what we fear most? Step by step, starting by accepting our inner battle, the one that makes us deny all pain, the one that repeats to us that there is nothing wrong even if it is not. Once we have admitted and accepted the malaise, we will awaken our greatest fears and we will therefore be in a position to choose the best weapons to face them.

You will feel the weight of the world

At first we may have the feeling that we have to bear the weight of the world on our shoulders or that everything is gradually going off, but we will understand that we only have to give a name to the panic or depression that live within us. After learning to call everything by its name, fears recede because we know what is happening and we can ask for help in case of a threat.

Naming what we hear does not mean reducing reality to the few simple details that fit into a label. Nor is it a valid excuse to hide when we make a mistake or define ourselves. The name is only a part, a small part of us that completes us, but does not define us, because we are much more.

Naming emotions does not mean forgetting the context of the problem, the support of others or your own resources. It is an easy way to delimit a set of emotions, thoughts and behaviors that would otherwise be difficult to understand.

Simplifying, however, does not mean forgetting that behind a name, a fear or a monster hides a person with his peculiarities. A person who is suffering and who is also courageous, a person who first of all needs support and understanding.

Don’t waste time denying reality

We must not waste time denying reality. What is the worst that can happen to us if we admit and accept what is happening to us, and stop avoiding the experiences of life? An opportunity opens up on the horizon: we will begin to live intensely.

Here then our thoughts will not be made only of monsters, but of a world full of possibilities, good or bad they may be. In this way, we will get to know each other at all levels, we will accept each other without conditions. The most important aspect, however, is to understand that we are stronger than we thought.

Sure, we will be afraid, but we will have a thousand weapons to fight it. We will feel pain, but we will also feel the intensity of the affection and warmth of the people around us. And we will realize that the dictatorship to which we submit when we pretend to live a life without pain is the one that hurts us the most, it hurts us because it denies a part of our reality.

He is not happy who does not feel pain, but he who recognizes and accepts his emotions. It is up to us to accept what we feel and face it. The result will always be a reason for hope for us, a hope to share with whoever we want.
