Don’t Be Limited By Destructive Thoughts

Don't be limited by destructive thoughts

As he evolves and grows, man tends to create a mental structure based on lived experiences and on the education received from an early age. Your surroundings and the people you grew up with may have greatly affected your perspective on the world. Destructive thoughts are nothing more than a habit from which, with perseverance, you can get rid of to live better.

The people around you can only influence your way of thinking if you allow them to. You are the masters of your thoughts and only you are in possession of the key that opens or closes that door.

Remember, in addition to your experiences and life successes, what defines you is your way of thinking and approaching the world.

Destructive thoughts can appear at any time

Nowadays, due to the enormous amount of information we are exposed to and the ease with which we are given to connect with people, we are much more prone to have a disordered mind. It has gotten to the point where even the most emotionally healthy people can have destructive thoughts.

Anyone who has been a victim of destructive thoughts will be aware of how much they hurt, and how they can sometimes distort the truth. In this sense, it appears strictly necessary to know the most common destructive thoughts, thus learning to let them go without paying attention to them.

Life is made up of shades, nothing is black or white!

One of the most common and rather limiting destructive thoughts is that there are no shades in life, that things are black or white. Fortunately, however, life is actually full of different shades and colors that make it flexible and special.

Thinking that everything is black or white can lead us to face life too rigorously, making us unable to perceive the different circumstances linked to the actions of others (and ours), and favoring the creation of conflicts.

  • How to improve this destructive thinking?

To do this, it is essential to reflect on that thought in practice, take a step back and observe it in perspective. Ask other people what they think and ask yourself if that thought is an absolute truth or not. You will surely realize that there are different ways of doing things.

Life isn’t perfect

“Whatever happens, there is always something wrong”. This destructive and undoubtedly pessimistic thinking leads people to find obstacles everywhere. Nothing is perfect! Still, it seems that negativity is a man’s prerogative.

Fortunately, nothing in life is perfect and imperfections exist for us to learn and nourish ourselves with. This is the beauty of a reality that allows us to grow as people.

  • How can we get rid of this destructive thinking? In life, even during the most problematic times, it is always possible to find a solution to feel better. If, however, you only see the negative aspects, repeat this sentence to yourself: “Nothing happens, this too will pass”.

The envy of wanting what others have

“I want it too” is a destructive thought that  leads people to envy others. Envy is a clear sign of insecurity and frustration in the person who is the victim.

Envy is a feeling that corrodes the soul,  which makes the vision of life itself bitter and, what is worse, it crumbles something inside of itself; all this only because one is not like another.

  • How to get away from such destructive thinking?

If you usually feel envious, first think about the fact that it’s not good for your health. Too much negativity will only harm you, even make you sick.

Rather than comparing what you have now with what others have, just think about how your life used to be, and how it has evolved to this day. Life is a ladder, there will always be someone on a step higher than you, but also someone below.

Do not feel envious of others, much better to be grateful for what you have, so as to overcome that feeling and realize how many positive things there are in your life, which make you feel good about yourself and those around you.
